In their own words, Turkey is telling us what they will do.
Words can hide the truth or words can reveal it. And in many cases, the same words will do both, hiding and revealing. In the same sentence even. That is one of the reasons why mysteries are—well, mysterious, and intriguing. It’s fun and exciting to uncover mysteries. The Bible has many of them. Occasionally they are hidden in plain sight. But more often, they are hidden in ancient cultures, symbols, geography, and people groups.
The words of the ancient prophets serve as a great example of puzzling mysteries that await discovery. The following passage is one of the numerous instances in which biblical scholars argue about what the original writer intended. “What did he mean when he used those words?” Scholars have debated every inch, word, and passage of the Bible. The famous Gog-and-Magog prophecy isn’t any different. Who were those people? Where did they live? Should we look at their original homeland, or consider their migration patterns throughout history? Or, were they mere symbols?
Really, it’s almost comical how many directions even learned scholars will go as they chase the many “rabbit trails” in search of biblical truth.
That’s Ironic!
We find an amazing irony in the passage below. It’s really stunningly ironic when we consider the current geopolitical climate. The Bible prophecy at the center of this famous passage was written approximately 2500 years ago. The words were penned on a scroll at about the same time that Daniel, Jeremiah, Isaiah, Joel, and many others wrote their prophecies. Give or take a couple of hundred years.
It was before, during, and after the Babylonian captivity of Israel. It was actually the most intensive period of Holy Spirit-inspired writing that occurred. A lot happened then. And all of the words, directly or indirectly, pointed to future events. Events that are unfolding right now. Yes–Right now!
The ancient lands of modern-day Turkey were the focus of Ezekiel’s prophecy. That’s the prophecy we see below. The full prophecy is two chapters long. But if you’re good at discovering biblical mysteries, you know that the prophecy is covered in many Old and New Testament prophecies.
Here’s a great irony. In today’s geopolitical climate, Russia is blamed for everything that isn’t Donald Trump’s fault. And often, Russia and Trump share equal blame. When in doubt, blame Russia.
Prophecy scholars blamed Russia.
It’s Russia! That was the conclusion of prophecy experts. Russia didn’t exist when Ezekiel wrote the words of his prophecy. But that didn’t stop biblical scholars. No worries. It’s Russia’s fault! It’s always Russia. Do you see the irony? The same thing occurs in the news cycle. Russia, Russia, Russia!
This blind confusion about prophecy is providing a sort of “cloak of deception” for the nation of Turkey. In plain sight, Turkey is implementing its plans. Ezekiel knew where this end-times attack would initiate from. From the land of modern-day Turkey. Other nations would join in. Those details are mentioned as well. Ancient atlases and writings point to the same region. But modern scholars used a trick to point the finger at Russia. Yes, the ancient people groups mentioned in the prophecy were from that region. But, they migrated! They migrated to Russia. So, it’s Russia’s fault.
By their words, you will know them.
Turkish leaders and journalists are telling us what they plan. Most people don’t see it. We’re distracted.

But Turkish leaders don’t know they are fulfilling Bible prophecy. It’s a mystery to them as well. But their words betray their intentions. In plain sight.

2 “Son of man, set your face toward Gog of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him

4 “I will turn you about and put hooks into your jaws, and I will bring you out, and all your army, horses and horsemen, all of them splendidly attired, a great company with buckler and shield, all of them wielding swords;
5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Put with them, all of them with shield and helmet;
6 Gomer with all its troops; Beth-Togarmah from the remote parts of the north with all its troops—many peoples with you.

In the above article, it’s clear they intend to confront every nation that stands in their way. They intend to dominate the Middle East. But they tell the world that they won’t stop there.

Our respected biblical scholars are still blaming Russia.
