Book of Isaiah

Women flirt with eyes & swaying hips, children rule Isaiah 3

Predictions of provocative women In Isaiah:

Provocative women, well that’s a phrase that will pique the interest of many people.

In Isaiah chapter three, we find some interesting predictions. The prophet wrote and predicted many things. Some of those things are a part of Israel’s history. Thousands of years ago, in the prophet’s day, his predictions came true. One such forecast concerned the leadership of the nation. One day soon, children will rule over Israel. It happened as the prophet foretold. Another prophetic prognostication proclaimed this. Your bread, Israel, will become very scarce. Good water will be very hard to find.

“Amorous for the Glamorous”

Then the prophet had another foresight that might have caught their eye more than the concern about bread and water. Their will women will become much more promiscuous. The women of Israel were going to drive the men of the nation crazy. They will get amorous for the glamorous! Now you may ask, did the prophet really say the men would go crazy? No, not exactly. That’s my paraphrase but I’ll explain.

God called the prophet Isaiah to speak to the nation. They had begun to slowly separate themselves from godly instruction and follow paths of selfish pursuits. That sounds familiar. The same thing is happening in America. Amorous for the glamorous is everywhere, but of course not just in America, but it is sweeping the globe. “Coming to a nation near you.” Stay tuned. 🙂

God never sent a prophet to a nation to tell them they were doing a great job. It’s the nature of the business. Prophets are sent to warn people and nations when things are going poorly. God’s heart toward people is to warn them when they are veering off course.

God loves us, so he warns us.

People usually don’t self-correct. As we pass through adolescence many of us become aware of potential dangers. We learn to avoid them. But unfortunately, the ‘crash and burn’ of many lives is quite evident along the road of humanity’s history. And of course, we love a good crash so there are lots of entertaining moments for those who like to watch. People head off course, crash through a barrier, and find themselves stuck in a ditch or worse.

Plan ‘B’

God sent Isaiah to warn the Israelites so they would avoid the ditch. The truth though, is deeper, as biblical truth always is. God knew the Jews would not listen to the message. They were headed for the ditch and driving fast. Isaiah told them to turn from their ways. God knew they wouldn’t. Plan ‘B’ was put in place but the reality is that plan ‘B’ was the plan all along. God plans ahead in anticipation of the mistakes he knows we will make.

What Isaiah predicted in chapter three:

  1. Jerusalem, the capital, and the center of their worship were destined for destruction.
  2. Bread and water would be scarce.
  3. Warriors, rulers, judges, wise elders, and prophets would be killed or taken captive.
  4. Young men (teens and younger at times) would lead because older men would be dead or imprisoned.
  5. Women would also take on the vacated leadership roles.
  6. Women would wear provocative clothing, and jewelry, and flirt shamelessly.

The last prediction appears out of place, but there it is. I’ve placed some of the verses below to give some context. Please take the time to open your bible and read the whole chapter to get the full context. (here)

As I said earlier, all of this already took place. Prophetic scriptures are meant for the audience who heard them first. The Israelites around 740-680 B.C. heard this message from their prophet. At the time the prophet began to speak the warning signs were already there.

God said he would now stand up and judge his people.

Isaiah 3:14 The LORD will enter into judgment with the ancients of his people, and the princes thereof: for ye have eaten up the vineyard; the spoil of the poor is in your houses.

The leaders were taking advantage of the forgotten and neglected people of the nation. (Sounds familiar)

Isaiah 3:15 What do you mean that you beat my people, and grind the faces of the poor? says the Lord GOD of hosts.

The leaders beat and ground the poor under their rule. (I’ve seen that in America)

Isaiah 3:16 The LORD says, “The women of Zion are haughty, walking along with outstretched necks, flirting with their eyes, strutting along with swaying hips, with ornaments jingling on their ankles.

Now for the women

And the crazy effect they have on men.

The final third of this chapter in Isaiah puts a heavy condemnation on the women who flaunt their beauty with their eyes. They use a sexy walk, glamorous clothing, and enticing sensuality. “Dressed to Kill,” as it’s said. Within the context, the prophet is making a general statement about the actions of the women. It’s not intended to condemn women only. The men were the warriors, judges, leaders, and wise men who watched the beautiful women and let the country fall apart. The women strutted their wares, the men went crazy for them, and the country fell into ruin. It was the fault of all the people of the nation that they fell away from God. The prophet, sent from the Lord, gave the warning. The people didn’t listen. They drove hard off the cliff and many died.

The Lord sees what happens to a nation and gives a warning but he will not hold judgment back forever. He sees what is happening today. He will not hold back forever.

Isaiah 3:18 On that day of judgment the Lord will strip away everything that makes her beautiful: ornaments, headbands, crescent necklaces,

God made women beautiful and men are easily distracted by them. The glamorous gets the guys amorous all the time. But guys let’s keep our eyes on the road and keep our country out of the ditch. Unless of course, you want to go with plan ‘B’. That’s probably what the Lord has planned anyway.
