Prophecy reveals the future

Prophecy: the unfolding of God’s plan. Welcome the future!

Read some of the top Bible prophecy verses

Are you interested in Bible Prophecy? If you are, then you are most likely familiar with some of the verses below. What are the verses or passages you believe are crucial to God’s prophetic message? Who is your favorite prophet or what is your favorite prophetic book?

Bible Prophecy isn’t a side issue. It is the whole issue. Mankind fell into sinful ways not long after they were created. God promised to send a savior to fix the mess they made. Jesus arrived at the appointed time as the Savior of the world. His enemies crucified him as it was foretold. He rose from the grave, just as the prophets said and he departed back to heaven. The plan was in place from the start. The prophets gave warnings and clues all along the way.

In the future, Jesus will return with the express mission of accomplishing His Father’s predetermined plan and finishing the restoration of our broken planet.

Revelation 19:10

“At this, I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers and sisters who hold to Jesus’ testimony. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy.”

We shouldn’t try to separate the words of Jesus from the words of prophecy. Jesus’ words, and his testimony, are inseparable from the prophetic message of the Bible. His mission was to finish His Father’s work and establish God’s kingdom on earth.

2 Peter 1:20

“Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things.”

The prophets were humble messengers of God. He chose them to be conduits of his Word. They aren’t given special access to the mind of God. Often times they received messages they didn’t understand. True prophets speak God’s Words, not their own.

2 Peter 1:21

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.”

The words of the prophet came from God not his own imagination.

Daniel 9:24

“Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the Most Holy Place.”

This verse is one of many hotly contested prophetic passages. The meaning and the timing of this passage have a crucial role to play in most prophetic scenarios developed by competent prophetic teachers.

Revelation 22:18

“I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If any one of you adds anything to them, God will add to you the plagues described in this scroll.”

This message is specific to the Book of Revelation but it also applies to the whole of scripture. We don’t get to change the words to suit our liking. We can’t change the outcome by deceiving people about how to interpret words. The Book of Revelation lists many ominous plagues. We wouldn’t want them added to the lives of our worst enemies.

2 Peter 1:19

“We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts.”

The prophetic messages found in God’s word are completely reliable. The effect of human sin has shattered the world into pieces. God will fix it! We can count on that. That message is reliable as this verse says. In the midst of the brokenness and darkness, these messages bring hope as light brightens the night.

2 Thessalonians 2:2

“Not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us – whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter – asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.”

Many teachers use prophetic passages to alarm people. They teach error, scare the gullible, and promote their own ministries. The Apostle Paul referred to this problem nearly two thousand years ago. We’ve had false prophets, prophecies, and erroneous teachings about the last days for all of the last two millennia. Many people are well-meaning, but in today’s internet era, the search for clicks and viral status dilutes the message of God’s prophetic Word. A lot of people are grossly negligent in the things they teach as Biblical facts.

Revelation 22:19 the scroll of prophecy

“And if anyone of you takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from you your share in the tree of life and in the Holy City, which are described in this scroll.”

This verse is similar to another that I shared above. It adds an important consideration. Yours and my eternal destiny are riding on how we handle the prophetic messages in the Bible. If we say these things won’t happen or it’s just crazy talk from crazy people, it’s the same as taking away from the message of the scroll as this verse says. If we want our place in heaven and our eternal life secure we should take God at his Word when he says these things shall come to pass.
