Ezekiel 38: Remove Walls in Israel & Peace will lead to war

Israel built defensive walls around their nation.

Israeli citizens have a limited, but solid, sense of security because of their system of defensive walls. But the walls have stirred a lot of hatred and bitter disputes. Jews and Arabs clashed as the barriers separated neighborhoods and towns. The defensive structure looks like a fence in some areas and an impenetrable wall in others. Despite the controversy, the construction of the barriers proceeded. Eventually, the walls brought peace that the decades of peace talks could not. Enemies were kept away from each other because of the wall. Graphiti became a  weapon of choice. That was because suicide bombers had limited access to shopping centers.

And also because crossing the borders became difficult. In recent attacks on Israel, enemies in Gaza have resorted to using drones and kites in an effort to get incendiary devices into Israel. That is a victory for the proponents of walls. Perhaps they do work in the right situations.

Many people suggest that the existence of barriers stirs hatred and makes peace impossible. Well, if that were true, where was the peace before the barriers went up?

Should the walls come down?

But if those walls were removed, it might serve as a catalyst that leads to Armageddon. A series of events will lead to a massive attack on Israel in the future. I’ve written articles about that here and here. In Ezekiel, chapter thirty-eight, we read that God will pull a coalition of nations into the final battle of Armageddon. Under the current geopolitical climate, it might seem like very little is needed to cause such a war. Hatred and envy are everywhere. But so far, every time the Arabs have tried an all-out assault, they have failed.

They will try again. The Bible predicts it. And one more time, they will fail, but not because of the wall.

President of the United States, Donald Trump, wants to build a wall on the southern border of the United States. He has numerous political enemies that are trying to stop his efforts.

The heated debate regarding the need for walls has raged on for years. The president has pointed to the success of Israel and its use of barriers. Millions of Jews sleep better at night because their tiny country is surrounded by walls. The constant threat of attack from neighbors led to the decision to do what many people claimed was unnecessary.

Is there a chance for peace?

I’ve also written numerous times that limited peace will arrive in the Middle East. Despite the reduction of attacks, the barriers haven’t brought true peace. There are currently private negotiations taking place among key nations as an effort for Middle East peace continues. Only this time, the negotiations have a better chance of success.

Many of the Sunni-Arab nations have begun to realize something about Israel. Israel would make a better friend than a foe. Cooperation and peace will lead to better living conditions in many countries.

But — based on the words of biblical prophets, a future peace will erupt into a carnage of chaos and war. A future peace deal between Jews and Arabs will be short-lived.

What if the future peace deal involves the removal of many of the security walls that Israel has built?

That could lead to problems.

Below, you’ll find Ezekiel 38: 7-16. In that passage, there are some interesting prophecies that refer to walls and peace.

Ezekiel 38: 7-9

7Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them. 8After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

Gog, the Antichrist, is told to prepare his company of nations. This will occur after many years and after Israel has returned to the Promised Land after a long dispersion among the nations. That return occurred after the horrors of the Holocaust. Ezekiel writes that this will take place in the latter years.

And it’s interesting to note that Israel will think they “dwell safely.”

Ezekiel 38: 10-13

10Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates,

12To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. 13Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?

Notice what else these verses say. Gog will go to the people who are at rest. They dwell safely, and without walls. Other nations will object to the attack but are not strong enough to prevent it. How many times since 1948 have nations around the world stood by and watched while Israel is attacked by surrounding armies? This will be no different.

Ezekiel 38: 14-16

14Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely, shalt thou not know it? 15And thou shalt come from thy place out of the north parts, thou, and many people with thee, all of them riding upon horses, a great company, and a mighty army: 16And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days, and I will bring thee against my land, that the heathen may know me, when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog, before their eyes.

It will be a false sense of peace that lulls the Jews into feeling safe. And it will be a false peace that pushes Gog, the Antichrist, into action. He will think his chance has finally come to eliminate every Jew in Israel. The Bible indicates he will almost succeed before the Lord stops him.

The destruction of the attacking forces will be a strong message to the nations that looked on in silence. Many people kept their mouths shut when the gas chambers of Germany were active. In the future, many more tongues will be silent during the attacks on Israel. But when God destroys 5/6th of the invading armies, people will wish they had chosen the right side.

But by then, the time to decide will have passed.
