Righteousness by grace: An Overview of Romans Part 1

Righteousness does not come through the deeds of the law.

Righteousness is a gift from God to those who trust and believe. It comes through faith. One cannot earn it through hard work and obedience to the Old Testament Law. Israel learned this lesson the hard way. First, they experienced seventy years of captivity. And now they are finishing nearly two thousand years out of fellowship with God. But soon repentance will come, and the Lord will restore them. There’s just one little ‘hiccup’ in the way.

The Great Tribulation is the final testing ground for the Jewish people. But they will come through the fire, and many will be saved.

The Bible Project

In this brief summary, we are featuring a video from “The Bible Project.”

The video covers the first four chapters of Paul’s presentation of the Gospel to the Church in Rome. Righteousness is a key ingredient of the “Good News” of Christ. Without it, we have no place in the heavenly realm.

See these key verses in the Book of Romans:

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 10:9

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 6:23

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

See the links below for more articles in Romans in which Paul explains the tragic failings of the Jewish people. But where the Jews failed, the Gentiles were granted access to the “branch.” But, and this is very important, the Gentiles don’t replace Israel. They are joined to the same branch.

Why did the Lord reject Israel?

They misunderstood God’s true standards of Righteousness. Thus, Israel was set aside.

Paul made it very clear. The Lord is not finished with Israel.

Israel has returned to the Promised Land. But they are not living by faith. But their faith will grow during the trials of the approaching tribulation. They will repent and God will restore them.
