Romans Overview Part 2: Church Building & Restoring Israel

Romans Overview: Christ will build his church and restore Israel.

In this second Romans Overview, we focus on the second half of the Apostle Paul’s “profound masterpiece.” Every word and chapter in Paul’s letter to the Romans is worthy of careful study. Once you have taken the time to study the entire book, (several times at a minimum.) that should enable you to pull back and see the whole picture.

And in that picture, you’ll find many parts of the master plan of God’s salvation of the human race. So, what do we find in Paul’s summary of God’s plan of salvation?

Well, there is a lot to consider but I want to focus on two of the most important components. And remember, this is a Romans overview, not a deep dive into the book.

Two big pieces of God’s plan are obvious when we look at the summary. The Church or Bride of Christ. And Israel, the chosen people of God who were rejected because they rejected their Messiah.

Paul reminds the growing church that they have been grafted into the vine. The church isn’t separate from the work the Lord was doing all along. And then, of course, Israel is dealt with because of their rejection of Jesus. But Paul makes it very clear that God is not finished with the Nation of Israel. As many of the prophets foretold — a restored Israel is included in God’s master plan.

So, the Lord will continue building His church until the time of the end. And at the time of the end, Israel will come into a renewed and sharper focus. The Lord’s prophets said the nation would see a restoration. And no amount of Jew-hating or poor theology can stop God’s plan of salvation for the Jews and the Gentiles.

The growing antisemitism rising around the world is a sign of what we can expect in the near future. Satan believes he can destroy every Jew on the face of the earth. He will soon implement his plan to accomplish that goal. He will fail and Israel will take the place God’s prophets have predicted.

Acts 1:6

So when they met together, they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?”

Romans 11:25

I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, and sisters, so that you may not think you are superior: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.

Romans 11:26

And in this way, all Israel will be saved. As it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.”
