Singing Maranatha, trusting the Lord for the outcome

What is meant by “Singing Maranatha?”

Singing, we all understand. Maranatha, well that is a little more challenging. And what about “singing Maranatha?” Joel Richardson explains the meaning of singing Maranatha in the video below.

Singing Maranatha is a habit all Christians should adopt.

In fact, it needs to become a new lifestyle for those who follow Christ. I am speaking to myself as much as anyone else. I need to adopt the singing Maranatha mindset. We read about it in the stories of missionaries, beginning with Stephen. Stephen didn’t break out in song as they stoned him to death. But his “singing Maranatha” moment was a glorious expression of worship and adoration. As he confronted his own death, he worshipped the Lord.

Paul and Silas did break into song in one of their many “singing Maranatha” moments. Beaten, bloody, and jailed for preaching the Gospel, they chose to sing rather than complain about injustice.

Here’s the video in which Joel Richardson explains the meaning of the phrase, singing Maranatha.

Singing Marantha in the midst of trials

These days in which we live are the last days.

But the days are prophetic days and longer than the twenty-four-hour days by which we set out calendars. Peter knew that the “last days” were more than 24 hours at a time. He said as much.

Question: “What does 2 Peter 3:8 mean when it says a thousand years is a day?”

Answer: “But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord, a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day” (2 Peter 3:8).

The context is the key to determining the correct understanding of this passage, especially the comparison of a thousand years to one day. The context of 2 Peter 3 is the return of the Lord to deliver His people. Peter tells the persecuted believers that scoffers will come and mock the idea that the Lord will return. They will say something like, “He’s been gone a long time; He’s not ever coming back” (see verse 4). As Christians are persecuted and continue to look for the Lord to deliver them, it does appear as though His coming is “delayed.”

I believe Peter was searching and wondering about the true meaning of these things. Much as we do today. The timing is unclear. But the Word of God assures us that the Day of the Lord is approaching. The last days began when Jesus was crucified on the cross. Daniel’s prophecy in chapter nine of his book points to a specific dividing line between the first 69 weeks and the final week. We are drawing closer to the final week.

Singing Maranatha From where we stand

From our current vantage point, we don’t know how far we are until the last chapter closes. The Apostle Peter understood that he was witnessing the beginning of the last days. He quoted the prophet, Joel.

¶ “ ’I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath, blood and fire, and palls of smoke. The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.‘ ” (Acts 2:19-20).

When Peter began his famous reply in the Book of Acts, he quoted from chapter two of Joel. That’s one of the famous blood moon prophecies that we’ve read so much about.

There are years ahead of us, as I write this post. We are days away from the end of 2020. It has been one of the most eventful years in living memory. But it is only a foreshadowing of the turmoil that awaits us.

Christian, get ready. As I said earlier, I say this to myself.

Singing Maranatha and waiting on the Lord

White Stone Watcher

Hello readers,

I have served as a children and youth pastor for over three decades. It was a great honor and pleasure to serve the Lord in that way. It has been my prayer, that many of them will learn of Jesus’ love and decide to commit their lives to follow Him.

I wrote the fiction story, ‘White Stone Watcher’ for them and their parents. In the story, we see a young man, and his best friend, Amanda. They face the normal challenges that today’s kids face at school. But with one huge difference.

Their challenge is twelve feet tall to be exact with an enormous set of six wings. Just like the prophet Isaiah saw in the throne room of God. He is a Watcher, an angelic being who is still invisible to Amanda. The messenger from God is about to lead both on a spiritual journey. They find they cannot escape the unseen war that rages all around them. They will become key players that God will use in the battle between the Sons of Darkness and the Children of Light.

I invite you to pray about a youth that might enjoy and benefit from this story. As the world grows darker, our youth must become aware that the Lord is calling them to join the Children of Light in the fight for what is righteous. We are all involved, whether we realize it or not. If they will not go to church, maybe they will read a book about someone just like them facing challenges at school.

God is calling them.

Praying for the youth, and a great awakening.

Pastor Doug
